DUNROAMIN’
Solo / SB / Grade 5
£6.00
Written in ABA format, the piece starts with two bass notes forming its 12/8 rhythm basis in the first section. It is reminiscent of a Scottish lament, while the treble hosts a melody with an underlying harmony.
In the second section the time signature changed to 3/4 and is of a bright, cheerful waltz, but is actually at the same tempo as the first section. It consists of a lilting treble melody that descends rather than ascends.
The third section is a recapitulation of the first section, albeit with a few modifications and fine details. However, the ending is somewhat of a technical challenge because it consists of ascending chromatic triplets in the treble.
